Amazon is significantly restructuring its Luna cloud gaming platform by phasing out third-party integrations that allowed users to access games from external storefronts. The company has announced it will stop supporting purchases and subscriptions from major gaming partners, marking a substantial shift in the service's strategy.
Amazon Eliminates Third-Party Game Integrations
Starting immediately, customers can no longer purchase Ubisoft+ subscriptions or Jackbox Games titles through Luna. The company will automatically cancel any active third-party subscriptions at the end of users' next billing cycle. For those who purchased Ubisoft+ directly from Ubisoft rather than through Luna, streaming access through the platform will remain available until June 10.
Major Features and Access Ending June
The most impactful change involves the Bring Your Own Library feature, which previously enabled gamers to stream titles they owned on platforms like EA, GOG, and Ubisoft through Luna. This functionality disappears entirely on June 3. Games purchased directly through Luna can still be played until June 10, though they'll become inaccessible after that deadline. Unlike competitors who offered compensation during similar transitions, Amazon is not providing refunds for these purchases. Users retain access to their games through the original platforms where they were purchased.
No Refunds Despite Service Discontinuation
This decision creates challenges for players who relied on Luna specifically because their personal systems lacked the power to run demanding titles. Those seeking alternatives may need to explore competing cloud gaming services like GeForce Now, assuming their specific games are supported.
Strategic Pivot Toward Exclusive Gaming Content
The restructuring reflects Amazon's evolving vision for Luna, which has undergone significant transformation in recent months. The company reoriented its focus in October toward GameNight, a collection of party games designed for smartphone compatibility and social play. Prime members will continue accessing Luna Standard at no additional cost, which includes curated PC games and streaming capabilities. The Luna Premium tier, offering expanded third-party game libraries, remains operational.
Amazon emphasized its commitment to broadening gaming experiences through accessible delivery methods while developing unique offerings. The company indicated select users will receive complimentary Luna Premium subscriptions during this transition period.
