Google is rolling out a productivity-focused upgrade to Gemini in Chrome on desktop. The new Skills feature enables users to save their favorite Gemini prompts for instant reuse, streamlining repetitive tasks and workflows across the browser.
The functionality allows you to store prompts directly from Gemini's chat history. Once saved, accessing a Skill is simple—just type a forward slash or click the plus button to select from your collection. Google is also providing a set of pre-built prompts to help users get started, covering common workflows like calculating nutritional information for recipes or comparing product specifications side-by-side across multiple tabs.
Skills are accessible across any desktop Chrome installation where you're logged into your account, making them available whether you're on your work computer, laptop, or home device. Currently, the rollout is limited to users with their browser language set to US English, though wider availability is expected in future updates.
This launch reflects Google's intensified focus on integrating AI capabilities throughout Chrome. Earlier this year, the company introduced a dedicated Gemini sidebar to the browser and integrated Nano Banana image generation directly into that sidebar. Additionally, Google has been expanding Gemini in Chrome's geographic reach, recently bringing the service to users in Canada, India, and New Zealand as part of its broader international expansion strategy.
The Skills feature demonstrates Google's approach to making AI tools more practical and accessible within everyday browsing. As competition in the AI space continues to accelerate, expect Chrome to receive additional AI-driven enhancements alongside traditional browser improvements.
