Google is rolling out an expanded version of Personal Intelligence, its contextual AI assistant feature that learns from your Google apps to provide deeply customized responses. The technology now spans AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome across the United States, making personalized AI assistance available to a broader audience.
Personal Intelligence works by securely connecting data across your Google ecosystem—including Gmail, Google Photos, and purchase history—to deliver responses tailored specifically to you. Rather than providing generic answers, the system understands your preferences, past purchases, and personal context to offer genuinely useful guidance without requiring you to manually provide background information.
The practical applications are substantial. Users can receive shopping recommendations that match their style preferences and recent purchases down to specific details like hardware finishes. When troubleshooting tech issues, the system identifies devices from your purchase receipts and offers step-by-step solutions for your exact model. Travel planning becomes smarter too—the AI can suggest restaurants during layovers while accounting for your food preferences, gate locations, and available time between flights.
Beyond logistics, Personal Intelligence helps with discovering new experiences. Whether you're seeking hidden gems in a new city based on your unique interests or finding hobbies aligned with your existing passions, the system leverages your actual preferences rather than relying on popularity rankings.
Google emphasizes that privacy and user control remain central to the feature's design. Users can choose which apps to connect—or disconnect at any time. The company notes that Gemini and AI Mode don't train directly on your email or photos, maintaining a clear distinction between personalization and data exploitation.
The rollout currently applies to personal Google accounts only, with Workspace business, enterprise, and education users excluded. Personal Intelligence is immediately available in AI Mode within Search, with broader availability in the Gemini app and Chrome extension beginning today for free-tier users, marking a significant expansion of Google's AI personalization strategy.
