The expansion is supported by Gemini 3.1 Flash Live, a new model designed specifically for natural, intuitive voice interactions. A key feature of this technology is its inherent multilingual support, enabling users to conduct searches in their preferred language regardless of location. This addresses a significant barrier to adoption in diverse markets where English-language interfaces may not be ideal.
Search Live transforms how users interact with search functionality by moving beyond traditional text queries. On both Android and iOS devices, users can access the feature by opening the Google app and tapping the Live icon beneath the search bar. Once activated, they can ask questions aloud and receive spoken responses, then continue the conversation with follow-up inquiries or explore related web content through provided links.
The platform includes camera integration for enhanced context. Users can point their device's camera at physical objects or spaces to receive visual assistance. For example, someone installing furniture can show their setup to Search Live and receive real-time guidance along with relevant instructional resources. This camera feature also works seamlessly within Google Lens—users can simply tap the Live option at the bottom of the screen to initiate a conversational exchange about their camera's view.
