Perplexity has unveiled Personal Computer, a new AI assistant now available for Mac users. The software leverages multi-model orchestration to function as a suite of computer use agents capable of managing files, applications, web resources, and complex workflows directly from your device.
The platform enables users to delegate tasks through natural language commands. You can ask Personal Computer to review your to-do list and execute items on it, open native applications like Notes or Messages, and intelligently coordinate actions across multiple tools simultaneously. The system can also help organize cluttered file directories by renaming documents and creating logical folder structures automatically.
Voice commands are supported, and users can initiate and monitor tasks from their iPhone as well. Perplexity emphasizes security and transparency, noting that all actions occur within a secure sandbox environment and remain fully auditable and reversible. The company states: "A system that acts on your behalf needs to be useful and legible. It should feel like a team you manage, not a rogue employee with keys to your most important data."
Personal Computer builds on capabilities Perplexity demonstrated with its earlier Perplexity Computer release in late February. This rollout positions the company alongside competitors who've recently introduced similar computer use agents for consumer markets.
The Mac version is launching today for Pro Max subscribers, with broader availability coming soon. Perplexity plans to prioritize users who previously signed up for the waitlist. The software represents the company's expanding ambitions to move beyond search and research tools toward becoming a comprehensive AI assistant for everyday computing tasks.
