Thick as Thieves, an enchanting heist game built by legendary stealth designers, is arriving on Steam May 20. OtherSide Entertainment and publisher Megabit Entertainment revealed the launch date during the Triple-i Initiative showcase, unveiling fresh gameplay footage that highlights the game's atmospheric world.
Legendary Stealth Designers Unite for Launch
The studio, founded by Paul Neurath, a veteran of the original Thief and System Shock 2, assembled a dream team of stealth genre pioneers. Warren Spector, who created Deus Ex, joined OtherSide in 2016, bringing decades of expertise in crafting immersive stealth experiences. Their latest project transports players to Kilcairn, a fictional Scottish city where magic intersects with industrial-era technology, all set against a backdrop of 1910s aesthetics and music.
May 20 Steam Debut with Fresh Gameplay
At launch, the game will feature two playable thieves, two distinct maps, 16 contracts to complete, and six unique pieces of gear. Multiple difficulty settings dynamically alter level layouts, ensuring varied playthroughs and replayability. The experience is designed for solo players or two-person cooperative teams.
Cooperative Focus Replaces Original PvP Design
The project has undergone significant transformation since its December 2024 debut at The Game Awards. Originally conceived as a PvPvE title combining player-versus-player and cooperative elements, the development team pivoted direction in April 2026. OtherSide announced the shift toward pure cooperative and single-player experiences, stating that testing revealed greater enjoyment from these modes. The studio emphasized this decision allows them to concentrate on refining the dynamic stealth mechanics that define the experience.
Launch Content and Replayability Features
Some early supporters expressed concern about the removal of competitive player elements, though developers indicated PvP content may potentially arrive post-launch. Console versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S remain unconfirmed, with current announcements pointing exclusively to the Steam release.
