Windrose, an ambitious cooperative pirate survival game, will set sail into early access on April 14 across Steam, Epic Games Store, and Stove for $30. The announcement came during the Triple-i Initiative indie games showcase on Thursday, marking a major milestone for a title that has already captured significant player interest.
Windrose Sets Sail Into Early Access
The game's momentum is undeniable. During a recent Steam Next Fest event, the Windrose demo attracted over 850,000 players, while more than 1.5 million users have added the title to their Steam wishlists. Developer Windrose Crew has built a compelling package that blends exploration, combat, and survival mechanics into a shared adventure experience.
Strong Player Interest Drives Launch
Players can explore either solo or cooperatively across a procedurally generated open world enhanced by 90+ handcrafted points of interest, including dungeons, temples, and shipwrecks. The core gameplay loop centers on naval combat, where crews coordinate weapon control, engage in boarding actions, and face off against sailors, creatures, and epic boss encounters using swords, muskets, and other weapons.
Cooperative Survival Mechanics Define Gameplay
Beyond combat, Windrose integrates deeper gameplay systems including farming, fishing, crafting, and trading. A reputation mechanic and base-building feature add strategic depth, while players can recruit non-player characters to join their crew. This blend positions Windrose as a grittier alternative for players seeking cooperative piracy experiences with more survival-focused mechanics.
Ambitious Roadmap Plans 50 Percent Growth
The early access phase represents just the beginning. Windrose Crew has committed to a 1.5 to 2.5 year development roadmap, planning to expand content by 50 percent. Future additions include new biomes beyond the three available at launch, additional enemy types, ships, equipment, and potentially new gameplay systems. The main story is expected to provide 50-70 hours of gameplay for those who see the journey through.
Prospective players can still experience the demo across all three platforms to get a taste of what awaits on the high seas.
